Carl (Hogan) Fontain, age 74, of 254 S Blue Heron Dr, Santa Rosa Beach, passed on January 16, 2022, at his home.
Born on November 4, 1947. He was the son of William and Jeannine Litzinger. He grew up in Pensacola and was an only child. He graduated from Pensacola High School at 17 years old and immediately joined the US Marine Corp, where he did two tours in Viet Nam as an artillery spotter. He was a Naval Gunfire Forward Observer. He was in the USMC for 7 years.
He moved to Destin in 1970, then there was only one stop sign, no stop lights, in the whole town and he started a career of fishing and went on to get his Captains license, and in his words" caught everything from a child's fart to a clap of thunder".
In 1985 he left Destin to help his family manage a family farm in Lake Geneva, WI. After the death of his aunt and uncle, he returned to Destin to start the first Live Bait business in the Destin Harbor. Carl retired in 2009, after a triple heart bypass surgery left him unable to cast his net. He spent the better part of his retirement teaching his grandchildren and all the neighborhoods children how to fish off his dock.
Predeceased was his daughter, Brandy Hearn.
Surviving are his wife of 36 years Frannie, son Barry Boutwel, daughter n law Shelia Boutwel, step daughter Cynthia Boyer, her spouse Loren Boyer. Grandchildren: Bethany M, Bethany D, Frankie, Sabrina, Alexander and Lillian. Great Grandchildren: Linnea, Emory, Jackson, Luke and Zoey.
There will be a Celebration of Life in the near future to be announced later.
