Bernina Leslie
Turner
December 9, 1943 – December 23, 2025
With deep love, we announce that Bernina Leslie Turner, 82, of DeFuniak Springs, Florida peacefully passed away on December 23, 2025 surrounded by her loving family after a brave battle against cancer. Leslie was born on December 9, 1943 in Los Angeles, California, the daughter of William L. Horne and Bernina Hope Myers Horne. Leslie married Norman M. Turner on December 7, 1998 in Riverside, California. They were happily married for 27 years. In that time, they loved to travel around the country in their motorhome and finally found their dream home and settled in the quaint town of DeFuniak Springs, Florida. Leslie especially loved animals. She and Norm rescued and spoiled many dogs throughout their life together. Before retiring from retail management, she took on various business ventures, but mostly focused on being a homemaker and taking care of her family.
Preceding Leslie in death is her beloved spouse, Norman M. Turner and her parents William H. Horne and Bernina Hope Horne.
We remember a remarkable mother whose life was defined by selflessness, kindness, and compassion. What set her apart, though, was her quirky sense of humor. She had a rare gift for making others feel at ease. Whether through a perfectly timed joke, an unexpected witty remark, or her ability to laugh at herself. She brought lightness even to life's hardest moments. She found joy in the little absurdities of life and made ordinary moments brighter by refusing to take herself too seriously.
As a mother, she gave endlessly of herself. Her needs always seemed to come last, not because she felt they mattered less, but because caring for others brought her genuine joy. She showed her love in countless quiet ways- listening without judgement and offering steady support no matter the circumstances. Her home, her time, and her heart were always open.
She leaves behind a family who adored her, friends who are better for knowing her, and a legacy of love, humor, and generosity that cannot be measured. Though she may be gone from sight, her voice, her laugh, and her unwavering love remain forever woven into the lives she shaped. She would likely insist that no fuss be made, but she deserves to be remembered fully: as a wonderful mother, a quietly heroic soul, and a woman who made the world kinder—and funnier—just by being in it.
Remaining to cherish our mother's memory are her daughters, Rene' Olivarria Bort (Scott) and Lisa Olivarria Ornelaz; step-children Randall Turner (Misty), Tara Turner Gibson, Nicholas Turner Gibson; grandchildren, Sabrina Ardry (Robert), Alyssa Ornelaz, Trisha Ornelaz, Jessica Ornelaz, Andrea Ornelaz, and Joshua Bort; great-grandchildren, Payton and Daniel Ornelaz, and Nora Ardry.
