Barbara W. Howell, age 72, passed away peacefully at her home in Santa Rosa Beach, surrounded by her family on Sunday, September 29, 2019. From her birth on April 4, 1947 to her death on Sunday, she nourished the people around her with her love, wisdom, copious quantities of food, and a mischievous sense of humor.

Barbara was born to Carl and Imogene Willmore in Albertville, Alabama. On June 16, 1967, she married H. Dwight Howell, with whom she raised two sons.

A Certified Public Accountant, Barbara owned her own public accounting business and later worked for a number of companies as a Chief Financial Officer. After retiring, she and her husband moved to the Emerald Coast region of Florida and settled in Santa Rosa Beach. When she wasn't on her back porch watching the sea and talking with friends and family, you could find her in her craft room hand painting ornate greeting cards and preparing to lead her next Stampin' Up demonstration.

Barbara fought a courageous battle with gastric cancer and spent six months undergoing treatment at MD Anderson Center in Houston, Texas.

Barbara is survived by her beloved husband of 52 years, Dwight; sons Michael (Shala) and Phillip (Lee); one grandchild; two sisters, Shirley (John) and Chere (Ron); and many nieces and nephews.

She will be greatly missed.

A time of visitation will be held 10:00-11:00 AM, Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at Clary-Glenn Freeport Chapel Funeral Home; 150 East Highway 20, Freeport, Florida 32433.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at Clary-Glenn Freeport Chapel Funeral Home, with  Pastor Jason Scheler officiating.

Burial will be in the Gulf Cemetery in Santa Rosa Beach.

The family would like to thank the staffs at MD Anderson Cancer Center and the Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast for their care and support.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Barbara's name to the American Cancer Society.
