Barbara Jayne
Hassel
March 26, 1935 – November 19, 2024
"It is more blessed to give than to receive." Acts 20:35
It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of Barbara Jayne Hassel on November 19, 2024 at the age of 89. Barbara was born on March 26, 1935 in New Castle, Pennsylvania to Ralph White and Julia Zimmerman (Harry Zimmerman). She was a long-time resident of Santa Rosa Beach.
Barbara was married to Norman Darrell Hassel for 55 years. She was known for her strong will, unwavering determination and love and support for her family and friends. She knew that it was more blessed to give than to receive. She dearly loved her nieces and nephews and would make a point to tell them always, "I love you with all my heart". Barbara was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt and a fun spirited soul that would help anyone. Her radiant smile and laugh lit up any room she entered and her ubiquitous sense of humor provided entertainment for all. She will be remembered by all the heart she shared with her family and friends. She truly loved each of them and if you knew her, you knew it. She loved music, dancing, visiting the beach, fishing at Pymatuning Lake and deep-sea fishing with her grandson, Hunter. Also, dining and shopping with her special friend, Teresa Kessell (Ernie).
Barbara retired at Glen-Gary Brick Plant. She was the owner and stylist for Debonee' Beauty Salon where many Marion residents had standing appointments. Barbara attended New Castle High School. She attended New Castle School of Cosmetology and was an accomplished Platform Model in the Pittsburgh area.
Barbara Hassel, a beacon of kindness and love, will forever live in our hearts. She is survived by her loving daughter, Deborah Campbell, niece and nephews, Beth McBride (Mike), Richard Papst (Lori), Gary Papst, Craig Papst, Don Jennings and Ellen Donaldson; grandchildren, Nathaniel Hassel, Megan Hassel, Sierra Seigman, Norman Hassel, Nicholas Hassel and Hunter Campbell and seven great grandchildren. She is also survived by special friend, Teresa Kessell, who thought of her as another mother.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Norman Darrell Hassel; son, Nathan Darrell Hassel and sister, Beverly Ann Papst.
A memorial service will be held at later date.
