Amanda Belle
Barfield
September 8, 1979 – October 7, 2025
On October 7, 2025, at 4:12 PM CT, the world lost a radiant light when Amanda Belle Barfield, known lovingly as Mandy to all who knew her, passed away peacefully at the age of 46. Only her late Grandma Lightfoot would call her Amanda, a cherished memory that connected her deeply with her family roots.
Mandy valiantly fought stage 4 breast cancer for nearly a year. She battled it with her characteristic grace, positivity, determination, and unwavering spirit. When she was diagnosed on October 19, 2024, she decided to face every challenge head on. She was a fighter who stood up for what she believed in and never backed down from what mattered the most to her.
A Life of Love and Service
When asked about her occupation, Mandy would simply say she was "retired." But in truth, her full-time calling was caring for her family: her husband Chase, their three sons, and their beloved dog Zoey. She would do anything for an animal in need and was always dedicating her time to helping the less fortunate. Whether it be volunteering with animals that needed her love or knitting scarves to keep the homeless warm. She always cared for others and wanted to help every living creature she could.
One of her greatest accomplishments, was being married to a stubborn man for over 28 years (Chase was her prom date) and raising three boys into the most wonderful young men anyone could have the privilege to know.
Mandy was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, and friend who exemplified what it meant to be a "Mama Bear" for those she loved. She would walk to the ends of the earth for her family, and anyone who knew her could testify to her fierce protective spirit.
Family and Legacy
Mandy is survived by her beloved husband of over 28 years, Chase Barfield; her three sons, Noah (eldest), Ethan (middle), and Trevor (youngest); her parents, Donnie Lipe and Lena Lipe (Lightfoot); and the countless friends whose lives she touched with her kindness and loyalty.
She was a loving daughter who maintained wonderfully close bonds with her parents. She taught her children through her own example how to honor and care for family, and what it meant to really love someone. She spoke with her parents regularly, always wanting them to be close and making them feel welcome in whatever home the family had created.
A Heart for Animals and Adventure
Mandy's compassion extended far beyond her human family. She was directly responsible for saving countless dogs' lives, through fostering dozens, and hundreds to thousands more through her volunteer efforts. Her love for animals, especially vulnerable and senior dogs, stemmed from her deep belief in preventing cruelty. As a passionate vegan, she chose her lifestyle because she couldn't bear to hurt any living creature, not because of any health reasons.
Mandy was the guiding compass and beating heart of the family, guiding the lives of her family into more positive and healthy changes. Through her habits and principles, she helped show her family what it really meant to care for those you Love… whether furry friend or human.
She was an advocate for eating right, holistic care, and homeschooling their sons. Through her, the family prioritized their health and education more than they ever had, and she always took on whatever role was needed: history teacher, debate partner, or even a captive audience for whatever her boys had cooked up next. But before all else, she was always a loving and caring mother for her sons.
Most remarkably, she pioneered the family's decision to sell everything and become Nomads for three years! Living across the entire country while exploring all 48 contiguous states together. She believed their sons needed to experience life for themselves and write their own history, instead of just reading about everyone else's. That just goes to show the type of guiding light she was for her family.
The Heart of Home
No matter where the family lived, whether in their permanent residence in Freeport, Florida, or during their nomadic adventures, Mandy had a gift for making any space she entered feel like home. Every year she transformed their house for holidays… a festive winter wonderland for Christmas, a bright summer splash of color for July 4th, or even just redecorating because she wanted to see something new. Her special touches and natural decorating ability made every new place they stayed in feel warm and welcoming to all.
Mandy's hobbies perfectly reflected her zest for life: becoming a yoga master, riding her bike 20+ miles a week, walking dogs as a job and for fun, knitting whatever vibrant colors she wanted to, and going hiking every chance she got. She especially loved hiking in waterfall areas and red rock deserts.
She embodied many beautiful contradictions: wanting to live on the beach and in the mountains, far from everyone yet close to neighbors and family, while still being close to amenities, but being far away from light pollution. These contrasts were part of what made her uniquely Mandy.
A Beautiful Goodbye
Mandy absolutely loved her family and her traditions, especially when it came to her ALL-TIME favorite show "Friends." Watching Friends every night as she fell asleep was her cherished routine. In her final moments, Mandy was surrounded by everything she loved most. Chase, Noah, Ethan, and Trevor embraced her bedside, with Chase holding her hand. And that old familiar routine stuck true… Friends episodes played softly on her phone as she slept. The theme song for her favorite show makes a promise: "I'll be there for you." Mandy was always there for her family until the very end, always making sure they felt supported, listened to, and understood. In her last peaceful moments, her family was there for her too.
Remembering Mandy
A graduate of Bolivar High School, Mandy earned what she called her "PhD in Family," the degree that mattered most to her. She was a woman who radiated positivity and lit up every room she entered, touching thousands of lives through her friendships and genuine care for others.
Her favorite flower was the Forget Me Not; a name she embodies now more than ever, as a bright space held firm in our memories, and our hearts, never to be forgotten.
Wife. Mom. Daughter. Friend. Vegan. Foster Mom To Dogs. Yoga Master. Amazingly Beautiful Soul. And so much more.
The most respectful and loving way to honor Mandy's memory is to look for her in all the beauty you see around you. When life looks bleak and dark, she is that glimmer of light shining through. She taught everyone who knew her that home isn't a place; it's the people you love and who love you back.
