Obituary

Mr. Alvin C. Ward, age 87, passed away January 3, 2026. He was born in Bonifay, Florida to Virgil Edwards and Altha Ward.

Mr. Ward was a resident of Freeport, Florida. He was raised by his grandfather and grandmother, Charlie and Elizabeth Ward. He worked on a logging crew at the age of 14.  After he turned 18, he joined the United States Air Force and served for his country for 22 years. When he retired, he was a Tech Seargeant, working for Northrup Corp. Although he always considered Freeport, Florida home, Alvin lived all over the world. He lived for a time in England; Saudia Arabia; Norway; Vietnam, Thailand and lived in the United States, he lived in Nevada, Alabama, Illinois and Georgia. After retiring from the United States Air Force Alvin worked in Civil Service for nearly 20 years more. He began and ended his Air Force career at Tyndall Air Force Base. Alvin was an avid fisherman; he could always be found either on the creek or the river. Although his own public education was limited, education was very important to Alvin. He returned to school as an adult and got a certification in Aircraft Airframe and power at Alabama Aviation and Technical College.

Mr. Ward was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; his first wife, Patricia Mayhew and second wife, Shirley Tharpe.

Mr. Ward is survived by his wife of more than 40 years, Maryann Ward nee Hughes; his son and step-son Keith Ward (Becky) and Dennis Cutchins (Marianne); his daughter Tammy Dolphin nee Ward (Bruce) and siblings, Dorothy Herring (Ronald), Jo Dorris Shortridge, Linda Sue Strickland, Marlene Andrews, James Earl Tullis and Robert (Bobby) Tullis. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Celebration of Life Services will be held at a later date at Clary-Glenn Freeport Chapel Funeral Home; 150 East Highway 20, Freeport, Florida 32439 with Military Honors by the United States Air Force.
