Obituary

Adam "Chip" Austin DuClau, age 54, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2026, at 9:36 p.m., surrounded by his loving family and closest friends.

Born on June 21, 1971, in Putnam, Connecticut, Adam was the son of Richard A. DuClau Sr. and Carol J. Woodmancy DuClau. He later made his home in Freeport, Florida, where he built a life defined by hard work, unwavering dedication, and a deep love for his family.

Adam was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Richard DuClau Jr.; his nephew, Sabastian DuClau; and his son, Julius DuClau.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Sabine DuClau; his children, Alexandria Bergman, Brandon DuClau (Chamiyyah), Dakota DuClau, and Izaiah DuClau; his grandchild, Aires DuClau; his mother, Pamela DuClau; his sisters, Lisa Desmarais (Bruce) and Misty Auston (Fidel Estrada); his nephew, Fidel S. Estrada; many beloved nieces and nephews; and numerous cherished friends whose lives were enriched by his kindness and friendship.

Above all else, Adam took immense pride in being a husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend. He fulfilled each role with steadfast love and devotion. He was the owner and driving force behind GDY Heavy Equipment, a business he built with perseverance and worked tirelessly to grow. Adam took great satisfaction in his work and treasured the friendships he formed throughout his career. He was known for his strength, dependability, and generous spirit—a man others could always count on.

Outside of work, Adam found joy in fishing, working on cars, and spending quality time with those he loved most. His family will forever cherish the traditions he made special, from annual Fourth of July fireworks celebrations in the summer to pumpkin-picking adventures in the fall. He understood that life's greatest treasures were not material possessions, but the countless moments shared with the people who made life meaningful.

Adam faced life's challenges with remarkable courage and determination. In his final moments, he was surrounded by the love of his family, who shared stories, expressed their gratitude, and reminded him of the profound impact he had on their lives. His strength, resilience, and unwavering devotion to those he loved will remain a lasting source of inspiration. Though our hearts are broken by his absence, we find comfort in knowing that love does not end when life does.

Adam's legacy lives on through the family he cherished, the values he instilled, and the countless lives he touched. He will be remembered for his loyalty, his work ethic, his generous heart, and, above all, his unwavering love for his family.

The family will celebrate Adam’s life in personal and private ways and greatly appreciates the love and support shown during this difficult time.
