Thomas Robert Kirby

U.S. Veteran

Mr. Thomas Robert Kirby, age 81, of DeFuniak Springs, Florida passed away December 29, 2012. He was born May 29, 1931 in Eufala, Alabama.

Mr. Kirby was a resident of DeFuniak Springs, Florida. He was Baptist by faith and a member of the First Baptist Church of DeFuniak Springs where he served as a Deacon. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving his country in the United States Army as a Sergeant. He also worked as a Mechanical Superintendent with the Civil Service at Eglin Air Force Base for 43 years before retiring. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge F&AM #170 DeFuniak Springs and was also a Shriner. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, helping others, and loved flying.

Mr. Kirby is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Bob Kirby and T.A. Kirby.

Mr. Kirby is survived by his wife of 59 years Kay Kirby, two sons Tim Kirby, Rick Kirby and wife Kim all of DeFuniak Springs, Florida, one brother W.B Kirby of Columbus, Georgia, three sisters Ruby Cox of Houston, Texas, Louise Lackey and husband Woodard of DeFuniak Springs, Florida, Pauline Ellison of Calera, Alabama, three grandchildren Christopher Kirby and fiancé Shelby Karczewski, Nicholas Kirby and wife Marisa, Samuel Kirby, two great grandchildren Carson Kirby, and Hadyn Kirby.

A time of visitation will be held 1:00~2:00 PM, Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at First Baptist Church of DeFuniak Springs at 216 East Live Oak Avenue, DeFuniak Springs, Florida, 32435.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at First Baptist Church of DeFuniak Springs with Reverend Jerry Chumley and Dr. Bobby Tucker officiating.

Pallbearers will be Jack Owens, Gerald Dickey, Joe Flowers, Henry D. Ennis, Clyde Rhodes, and Jerry Rankin. Honorary Pallbearer J.W. Adkinson.

Floral arrangements are being accepted.

Burial will follow in the Magnolia Cemetery with military honors.
